What are the practical, ethical and scientific reasons for talking about reinforcing behavior rather than reinforcing organisms or for using reinforcement to change behavior rather than falling back on extinction or punishment? We’ll consider questions like these as we discuss how we can reconcile our technical talk with our talk to parents and other clients, with special attention to how we can address some common misconceptions about applied behavior analysis.

We walk the walk, but do we talk the talk? As clinicians, do we speak with parents or to them? Is it effective in motivating them to adhere to interventions or do you find that sometimes they inhale and exhale at the sight/sound of parent training sessions? Research shows that parents who receive parent training obtain better outcomes out of their children's treatment, decrease their overall expenditures in therapy and become empowered to maintain these behavior changes over time. However, while parents are bringing their children to treatment (which is indicative of their desire to find help, unless of course, they are mandated by court), it is still a challenge to help parents follow through with interventions at home. Without addressing the etiology of parents' non-adherence or lack of consistency in treatment, it is impossible to help them move past these barriers.

The Practice Makes Perfect Program is an articulation program designed to increase the rate of progress with speech sound production and articulation disorders. With the combination of the Practice Makes Perfect Program, Precision Teaching, and the use of the Standard Celeration Chart, I have observed qualitative changes in student’s lives that I had not seen before. The Practice Makes Perfect Program is a fun way of making speech progress. The students enjoy “beating their score” and all you really need is a kitchen timer. Try it, test it, add to it, and see for yourself how well the Practice Makes Perfect Program fits into your therapy session.

Having three to six unrelated peers living in a group residence that requires 24-hour staff supervision and support is prohibitively expensive, and not the optimal model as it relates to recognizing and appreciating individual differences, desires, goals, and objectives. This webinar will address the rapidly emerging alternative models which will reduce costs, reduce the need for “artificial staffing”, and allow persons to live in a more fulfilling and enriched environment.

This 1.5-hour LIVE WEBINAR will occur on December 17th at 1:00 pm Eastern Time.
